About OwnRig

We answer the question
nobody else answers clearly.

You want to run an AI model locally. You search for hardware advice. You get a 45-minute YouTube video, a Reddit thread with 14 conflicting opinions, and a spec sheet that assumes you already know what VRAM quantization tradeoffs look like.

We built OwnRig because that experience is broken.

Who we are

We’re a small, globally distributed team. Different time zones, different rigs, same obsession: making local AI accessible without the guesswork.

Some of us benchmark GPUs on weekends for fun. Some of us have strong opinions about thermal paste. All of us believe you shouldn’t need a PhD in hardware or a $10,000 budget to run models on your own machine.

The models are open. The tools are free. The only missing piece was honest, specific guidance on which hardware actually works for which workloads, at what cost. That’s why OwnRig exists.

What drives us

Local AI is a fundamental shift.

Not because “the cloud is bad.” It isn’t, for many use cases. But owning your compute means owning your privacy, your uptime, and your costs. A developer in Bangalore and a tinkerer in Berlin should both be able to figure out what they can run on what they can afford.

Without wading through marketing noise.

Independence

No sponsors. No pay-to-rank. No conflicts.

OwnRig isn’t sponsored by NVIDIA, AMD, Apple, or anyone else. No manufacturer pays for placement. No retailer influences our rankings. Recommendations come from technical merit and community benchmarks, not ad budgets.

Some links are affiliate links. If you buy through them, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This doesn’t change what we recommend. If a product is bad, we say so. If a cheaper option does the job, we point you there.

Our data

Performance numbers come from community benchmarks, manufacturer specs, and our own testing methodology. Prices track US retail and Indian market estimates. Every data page shows when it was last refreshed.

If you spot something wrong, tell us at [email protected]. We’d rather fix a number today than lose your trust tomorrow.

The long game

We didn’t build this for one quarter.

AI hardware moves fast. New models ship weekly. GPU generations turn over every 18 months. OwnRig is built to be the definitive answer to “what do I need?” five years from now. That means current data, transparent methodology, and honest recommendations, even when the honest answer is “don’t buy anything yet.”

Trust is the product. Everything else follows.
