Privacy policy

OwnRig collects as little data as possible. Here is the complete list:

• Account information (only if you sign in). If you create an account using your GitHub account or a sign-in link sent to your email, we store your email address and any builds you save. Authentication is handled by Supabase; we never see or store your password.
• Email address (only if you subscribe to hardware updates). Stored by our email provider, Kit (formerly ConvertKit). Used solely to send you notifications when we add new models, GPUs, or builds. We do not sell, share, or rent your email to anyone.
• Analytics data. We use three analytics services to understand which pages are useful and where to improve:
  • Google Analytics 4 collects page views, device type, and general location (country level) using first-party cookies. No advertising cookies are set. No personally identifiable information is sent to Google.
  • Vercel Analytics collects page views, referrer URLs, browser type, and operating system. It runs without cookies.
  • Vercel Speed Insights collects performance data (page load times, interactivity, layout stability) to help us keep the site fast.
• Local storage (browser only). Your theme preference and any unsaved build state are kept in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device. We cannot access it.

You can use OwnRig without creating an account. All recommendations, compatibility data, and guides are available to everyone.

If you choose to sign in (to save builds or manage API keys), authentication is handled by Supabase. You can sign in with your GitHub account or a sign-in link sent to your email. We never see, store, or process your password.

• Your email and saved builds are stored in Supabase (hosted infrastructure).
• A session cookie is set to keep you signed in. This cookie is refreshed on each page request and is removed when you sign out.
• We do not store payment information.
• To delete your account and all associated data, email [email protected].

When you enter your email in our newsletter form, it is sent to Kit (formerly ConvertKit) via a server-side proxy. Your email is never exposed to client-side code. We use it for one purpose: notifying you about hardware data updates.

• Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
• You can unsubscribe at any time with one click.
• To request deletion of your email, contact [email protected].
• We do not send promotional emails from third parties.
• We do not share your email with advertisers.

OwnRig uses minimal cookies:

• Google Analytics uses first-party cookies to distinguish unique visitors. No advertising cookies are set. You can opt out using browser extensions or by disabling JavaScript.
• Supabase session (only if you sign in). An authentication cookie keeps your session active. It is removed when you sign out.
• Theme preference is stored in localStorage, not cookies. No tracking involved.

Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights do not use cookies.

We do not use retargeting pixels, social media trackers, or fingerprinting.

Some product links on OwnRig are affiliate links. When you click these links and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

Our affiliate networks include Amazon Associates, eBay Partner Network, and Impact (for retailers like Best Buy, Newegg, and B&H Photo). Retailer links without an active affiliate tag go directly to the retailer's search page with no tracking.

Affiliate relationships do not influence our recommendations. Our data comes from community benchmarks and technical specifications, not from affiliate partnerships.

OwnRig relies on the following third-party services that may process limited data:

• Vercel hosts the site and provides analytics and performance monitoring.
• Google Analytics provides traffic analytics.
• Supabase provides authentication and data storage for user accounts.
• Kit (formerly ConvertKit) manages email subscriptions.
• Amazon, eBay, Impact process affiliate link clicks.

Each service has its own privacy policy. We select services that minimize data collection and do not sell user data.

• All connections to OwnRig use HTTPS encryption.
• Email subscriptions are stored by Kit, not on our servers.
• Account data (email, saved builds) is stored in Supabase with strict access controls.
• We do not store passwords or payment information.
• Build configurations in localStorage stay on your device and are never transmitted to us.

Regardless of where you live, you can:

• Use OwnRig without an account or email subscription.
• Unsubscribe from emails at any time (link in every email).
• Sign out to remove your session cookie.
• Request deletion of your account or email by contacting [email protected].
• Clear localStorage data by clearing your browser's site data.
• Block analytics via browser settings or ad blockers.

For EU residents (GDPR): our legal basis for processing your email is consent, which you provide by submitting the form or signing in. You may withdraw consent at any time.

For California residents (CCPA): we do not sell personal information.

For Indian residents: this policy complies with the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011.

If we change how we handle your data, we will update this page. For material changes (new data collection, new third-party sharing), we will notify subscribers by email.
